Car accidents caused by intoxicated driving are common & can result in serious injuries or death. For that reason, each state has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit for its drivers. In Missouri, the BAC limit for drivers is 0.08%, generally. If the driver is over this limit, their driving is considered impaired & they can be charged with DUI. However, did you know there are some types of drivers that are held to an even stricter standard? Keep reading to learn if you may be held to a more stringent BAC.

If you are a commercial driver, your BAC must be at or below 0.04%. As a CDL driver, a DUI charge can be the end of your career, so it’s very important to understand this limit change specific to that class of drivers. A DUI charge comes with fines of its own, but it will cost a lot more if you are no longer allowed to hold a CDL license.

Drivers under the age of 21 have a legal BAC limit of 0.02%. One single drink would put a driver over this limit, so this standard is in place to keep young drivers in line with the legal drinking age of 21.

Based on your age or driving classification, you can see that simply being under the 0.08% BAC limit may not be enough to avoid a DUI. These are serious charges that can have long-term consequences, so it’s important for you to be informed of the law.
